Exhausting A Place In Lincoln…

In this week’s session, our task was to choose a place nearby and observe every aspect of it; what we see, hear, smell etc and make note.

This is my attempt…

LOCATION: BOTTOM FLOOR OF MINERVA BUILDING

WEATHER: DIDN’T CHECK, WAS INSIDE

Outline of an inventory of some strictly visible things:

  • lots of tables and chairs
  • waste/recycling bins
  • tables stacked on top of each other
  • 2 vending machines
  • 1 cash machine
  • 2 lifts
  • several coffee cups
  • signs advertising food available

Colours:

  • cyan blue and magenta walls
  • beige, magenta and cyan blue chairs- both harder and sofa chairs
  • light brown tables
  • royal blue circle table with sugar and cups on
  • red fire extinguisher
  • black and silver stair cases
  • white coffee cups
  • bronze statue in a glass case

Occurrences/actions:

  • sound of voices of conversations across the floor
  • people sat down on their phones, eating or working on laptops
  • people walking between buildings and floors
  • woman picking up brochure
  • a man buying food at the indoor cafe
  • a young man running downstairs
  • sound of footsteps on the floor
  • 2 girls stood outside the uni shop
  • a couple with a pram
  • a woman clearing a table
  • a man walking with a metal trolley and leaning it against a wall
  • the sound of lift buttons between pressed, progressing with the lift going up/down
  • the sound of bin bags being rustled
  • the sound of laughter nearby
  • a woman sorting and cleaning the circle table with cups on
  • the sound of doors being open and shut
  • a boy crouched down tying his shoe lace
  • sound of heels
  • sound of someone whistling
  • a feather floating in the distance
  • a girl eating a twister lolly
